The cycle of life in the Barossa vines has been turning for more than 150 years, since the Schrapel family planted their first vineyards in 1852. The family had arrived in South Australia from Silesia eight years previously and made their home in Bethany, the Barossa's first settlement.
Today with Bethany Wines being run by fifth and sixth generations of the same Schrapel family, the vines' life cycle continues in much the same way as it always has, with minimal intervention from us to produce the best possible vines and grapes.
"The philosophy at Bethany Wines has remained constant for more than 30 years - to produce exceptional wines that show the flavours of the family vineyards and are a natural reflection of the microclimate of the Barossa Ranges" - Geoff Schrapel.
In creating a unique wine experience, the family wishes to share the sense of place that is Bethany.
Their aim is to live well, provide for their children, care for the land and hand the winery and vineyards to the next generation in a better position than when they started.
The 2017 vintage is regarded as one of the best vintages in the Barossa and the 2017 Bethany GR12 Shiraz is certainly an outstanding wine winning multiple awards.
LE Reserve Shiraz expresses to the fullest the true characteristics of Shiraz grown on the foothills of the Barossa. The fresh, vibrant aromas of wild barriers, clove and spice carry onto the full flavoured palate.
This Cabernet Merlot boasts vibrant red fruit on both the nose and palate is supported by restrained oak. Although drinking well now, this wine will continue to develop in flavour and complexity with medium term cellaring. Enjoy with roast beef & rich pasta dishes.
