Killibinbin, Scream, Shiraz, 2018, Langhorne Creek, South Australia

Producer Profile

Brothers in Arms is very much a family concern. As the owners, Guy & Liz Adams are involved in all aspects of the business on a daily basis. It’s not surprising really as they live on the vineyard only 2 minutes down the road to the winery.

The homestead is the hub of everything as well as being the domain of their 2 children, Myles & Emily. They are the 6th Generation to live at Metala and are the inspiration for many things, including the No.6 label.

“As we continue to be the custodians of the Metala property our vision moving forward is to respect the lessons learned in the past while seeking out innovative approaches to our future.”

Viticulture

Having control of the wines from the soil to the bottle gives Guy & Liz great satisfaction. They understand how each parcel of fruit came to be and where certain distinct characteristics may be found. This is invaluable when it comes to blending the wines, building each layer of texture and flavour to create styles which they believe best showcase our estate and the Langhorne Creek region.

The most notable thing about Langhorne Creek is the ability to grow premium quality grapes with a minimal amount of fuss. The climate is warm enough that we don’t have to endure some of the cool climate headaches such as devastating frosts, labour intensive canopy management or inclement weather associated with late harvest dates.

Sourced from our 1990 Well Shiraz and 1996 North Shiraz Blocks the fruit was machine harvested at night on the 19th & 21st of March. 100% single estate, 4 individual plantings.

Winemaking

On receival the fruit was destemmed only, no crushing. 10 days on skins prior to pressing and maturation in 20% new American oak hogsheads and 1-3 year old French oak barriques for 18 months. The final 6 months prior to bottling the wine was stored in seasoned barriques.

Tasting Note

Dark purple in colour. Intense plums, vanilla and red fruits with a hint of spice and freshly grated nutmeg on the nose. The mid palate is weighty and generous, the fine tannins offer a firm structure now but will develop a velvety texture as the wine ages.

Goes well with

Barbequed meats.

Cellaring

Up to 5 years.
